How about someone other than Prang?

So I keep saying that there were tons of album card publishers (ok at least a half dozen). So where is my evidence? Good question. Let’s talk about William H. Forbes of Boston. Allegedly, he was the brother-in-law of Louis Prang, having married Prang’s sister. I find no official record of this in genealogy sites.

I do know that Forbes did some lithography for Prang related to Album cards in the 1860s. Unfortunately I cannot find scans of those but they do now reside in the Jay T. Last collection and the Huntington Library.

I do have some Forbes album cards, though I have only found 2 example (and 2 of each!). He did some lithographic work around the Bunker Hill Monument Centennial and also published these 2 cards (or more, please let me know!)

CDV Size album card lithographed by William H Forbes, ca 1876.

Forbes did nice, contemporary work to Prang. I just wish I could find more firsthand research related to Forbes. Here is the other card I have from (apparently) the same set.

Perfect little chromolithograph of Faneuil Hall.

I have been forced to investigate the North End of Boston multiple times in search of awesome Italian food Forbes evidence but have yet to come up with any Forbes evidence. Limoncello serves some of the best food in America.

So if anyone has any Forbes info related to album cards, please let me know.

I’ll keep writing.

I am nuts about early album cards from the 1860s-70s. And other cards and small lithographs. This space is to talk about all of them.
